The Best Italian Variety Show - Ever! Is a unique play that it is both extremely entertaining and poignant. You donít have to be Italian to love the show. The professional caliber of performance makes for a hard-hitting, character-rich, high-energy experience that entertains audiences of all ages.
As first generation Italian-Canadians performers, we share our stories, experiences and heritage, providing an alternative cultural perspective and de-mystifying the more elaborate Italian traditions and stereotypes for audiences of all cultures. Through laughter, the audience experiences a heritage kaleidoscope seldom seen. In a country where immigration is the basis of our cultural fabric, BellaLuna integrates the stories and influences of immigration of our Italian parents. Bringing a culturally based show to an audience encourages tolerance and empathy by revealing similarities and nurturing understanding. BellaLuna also uses Commedia DellíArte, the 15th century form of Italian mask theatre as a key element to tell modern tales. This form was extremely influential to Shakespeare and other commonly studied authors and has today trickled down into TV sitcoms. Traditionally, the crowd-pleasing Commedia troupes played to thousands, relying on their exceptional physical skills, quick comic timing, and sharp satiric wit to bring familiar, broad characters to ebullient life. WHAT THE HECK AM I GOING TO SEE?A Comedy Variety show with mock-celebrity hosts, songs, sketches, game shows and more! WHAT LANGUAGE IS THE SHOW IN? In English with some Italian WILL THERE BE AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION? YES! Some is encouraged! Too much will be kicked out! HOW LONG IS THE SHOW? The show runs 60 minutes with no intermission...so pee first. (90 minute show also available) WILL THERE BE FOOD? Yes, onstage, but none for you. WHERE DO I GET TICKETS? Tickets available at the door. IF I'M NOT ITALIAN, WILL I STILL GET THE JOKES? YES! Absolutely!
